Celebrating 30 years of family and friends at Boots & Kimo’s Homestyle Kitchen, we reflect on the culinary journey that began with our father’s dream. George “Boots” Kiakona, a Maui native and Navy veteran, the restaurant opened on Father’s Day in 1994, a tribute to our father who, unfortunately, never witnessed its fruition. In the early days, my brother and I, driven by determination and guided by Uncle Kimo, embraced the challenge of bringing our father’s dream to life. My brother honed his skills in the kitchen alongside Uncle Kimo, adapting family recipes while I managed the front of the house. Together, we cultivated a menu that seamlessly blended tradition with innovation. The mac nut sauce pancakes, a closely guarded family secret, became a signature dish, epitomizing our commitment to infusing classic recipes with a unique twist. Over the years, we’ve introduced new creations while maintaining beloved classics like the Pulehu Ribs, inspired by cherished childhood beach BBQs. Navigating the challenges of growing demand, we expanded from an 800 sq. ft. space to a 2,000 sq. ft. location in 2010. With our move to the Enchanted Lake Shopping Center, we’re excited to continue serving our community and grateful for their unwavering support. Our dedication to preserving our family legacy and sharing our love for food remains steadfast, promising exceptional experiences for future generations.
